Our Executive Director
Maestro Joshua Jobst has been active as professional pianist, vocalist, pedagogue, conductor, composer, author, speaker, leader, and visionary for over 25 years. Before coming to St. Mary’s, he served as Kapellmeister (Choir Master) at Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Church in Livonia, Michigan. His mother was his first music teacher at age 4, playing Bach on the piano and singing hymns. Maestro holds an M.M. (Master of Music) in Piano Performance with a second focus in Composition from Eastern Michigan University, and a B.A. in piano pedagogy from Concordia College Ann Arbor, MI. He studied piano with Genevieve Sayer, Victoria Mushkatkol, Robert Howatt, Carolyn Lipp, Dady Mehta, and Garik Pedersen; vocal and choral conducting with Wendy Bloom and Kurt von Kampen; and composition with Anthony Iannaccone. Maestro is the recipient of numerous prizes and awards at music festivals and competitions, including: the Young Artists Competition; EMU Graduate Music Competition; Viardo International Piano Competition; and the American Liszt Society/William Garrison Competition, where he received first prize for the best interpretation of a piece by Franz Liszt. He is also the author of two music books: Pitch Paths: A Method for Developing Absolute Pitch at Any Age and Piano-Voice: Beginning Music Language for Children. In addition to music, Maestro is a professional photographer and cinematographer (BeadedElephant.com), and he even drove a semi across America for a year as a long-haul trucker! Maestro also loves riding motorcycles and helping people. He is the President and Founder of the nonprofit Orthodox Christian Men’s Association (helping men become better men together in Christ).
